Seaside Cycling the Popular Awaji Island

A Popular Seaside Cycling Route Suited for Any Level of Cyclists

Situated in the Seto Inland Sea, Awaji Island is renowned for its favorable weather, featuring mild rainfall, a hot yet less humid summer, no snow in winter, and pleasant spring and autumn seasons, with an average temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. Despite being the same size as the total of 23 wards of Tokyo, Awaji’s population is only a fraction, making it a serene destination. With picturesque seaside views, the island offers an ideal setting for seaside cycling.

The west coast of Awaji Island has many spots selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Sunsets, perfect spots for your photo opportunity!

The entire seaside cycling route is about 150 km. If you go at 20 km/h, it should technically take just 7.5 hours. However, the southern mountainous area requires physical strength and time. It is said to take about 10 hours including rest and photo-taking time for a middle-level cyclist. If you are at a beginner’s level, it is recommended to go about halfway, sleepover, and then complete the latter half of the route.
