Meet the Iconic Guides: Astro Boy and Black Jack

As part of the World Expo 2025, the Pasona Group’s pavilion will feature two beloved characters from the world of manga and anime: Astro Boy and Black Jack. Created by the legendary Osamu Tezuka, Astro Boy (known as “Tetsuwan Atom” in Japan) has been a symbol of technological optimism and human-robot harmony since his debut in the 1950s.

Astro Boy is an advanced robot boy with incredible strength, kindness, and a deep sense of justice, embodying the perfect blend of human and robotic qualities.

Astro Boy is originally a robot created by Dr. Tenma to replace his deceased son. He is equipped with a variety of powers including superhuman strength, flight, and advanced AI. His adventures often explore themes of identity, humanity, and ethical issues surrounding advanced technology, making him a timeless character in science fiction.

Black Jack, is another creation of Tezuka. He is Astro Boy’s older brother and a more serious, robust character. Black Jack is known for his powerful jet propulsion, giving him the ability to fly at high speeds. He represents a darker, more mature aspect of robotic life, often seen as a protector and an enforcer of justice.

Astro Boy and Black Jack, embodying the harmony between humanity and science & technology, will serve as a knowledgeable guides for visitors to the pavilion. The aim of the pavilion is for visitors to go on a journey alongside Astro Boy, exploring the rich tapestry of life’s history, the profound wisdom that sustains humanity, and engaging with the visionary design of a future society.

PASONA NATUREVERSE: “Thank You, Life”

Pasona Group’s mission revolves around the realization of a society where everyone can actively participate in a lively and healthy manner. Under the theme “Thank You, Life”, the company’s pavilion aims to foster a profound sense of gratitude for life among visitors of all ages, emphasizing our interconnectedness with the natural world.

Humanity’s existence is intricately tied to nature’s blessings, yet, amidst the hustle of modern life, we often overlook this gratitude. Pasona Group envisions a future where gratitude for life’s abundance is embraced, and visitors to the pavilion are invited to become co-architects of this vision.

By fostering a collective effort to create a “Natureverse” (a compound of the words “Nature” and “Universe”), where appreciation for nature resonates universally, Pasona Group hopes to inspire visitors from around the globe to join in shaping a brighter future.

The Pasona Group Pavilion proudly welcomes Dr. Yoshiki Sawa, Professor Emeritus of Osaka University, a renowned authority in regenerative medicine using iPS cells, as Executive Producer. With a focus on the interconnectedness of body, mind, and societal bonds, the pavilion offers a multifaceted exploration of life’s essence.

Under the thematic umbrella of “Body, Mind, and Bonds”, the pavilion showcases cutting-edge advancements and insights. In the realm of the Body, visitors will explore the realms of medical care and nutrition, exploring avenues for fostering a healthy physical existence.

Dr. Yoshiki Sawa’s expertise in regenerative medicine, particularly through iPS cell-derived cardiac tissue sheets, stands as a testament to the power of modern technology in restoring and sustaining life.

Furthermore, the pavilion for the expo 2025 was conceived by the acclaimed architect Satoshi Itasaka, titled “The Spiral of Life (Inochi no Rasen): From Ammonite to iPS Heart”, drawing inspiration from the mesmerizing spiral patterns of the ammonite.
