Sushi and Tempura | Fresh Awaji Seafood | Unforgettable Sunset View
An Amazing Ocean View from Every Seat in the House
Inside Aonoya, the tiered, step-like seating is designed so that every seat faces the sea. The walls are made of glass, allowing uninterrupted views.
At Aonoya, you can enjoy refined sushi and tempura made with carefully selected ingredients from Awaji Island. The island was once known as the “Land of Food” providing fresh ingredients to the imperial court, thanks to its rich soil and fresh seafood.
During the day, you can enjoy the beautiful ocean view of the Harimanada Sea. In the evening, enjoy what has been selected as one of the “Top 100 Sunsets in Japan.” After the sun goes down, beautiful images are projected onto the glass with projection mapping, creating a lively immersive space.
Seasonal Japanese cuisine, focusing on sushi and tempura
Aonoya’s cuisine mainly consists of Japanese dishes such as seafood nigiri sushi and freshly fried tempura. The nigiri sushi features fresh ingredients such as sea bream, sea urchin, and octopus caught in Yura Port on Awaji Island. Akashi Strait is particularly known as a rich fishing ground for white fish. Many guests travel to Aonoya to try the rare Yura sea urchin from Awaji.
Other popular chef-made nigiri dishes include Awaji’s long-season mackerel, hairtail, and conger eel.
The tempura is freshly fried using ingredients from Awaji Island, such as shrimp, white fish, and freshly harvested vegetables from our own farm and other local farms. Combined with tea salt, seaweed salt, or tempura dipping sauce, the flavors come together for an exquisite taste of Awaji Island.
Popular Lunch and Dinner Menu Items
For lunch, the “Aonoya Gozen” set is popular. This comes with a variety of elaborate seasonal side dishes served within a tiered Japanese cypress box. Other dishes offered in this set include fresh nigiri sushi and freshly fried tempura.
For dinner, there are three popular full-course meals:
- the “Sushi Omakase,”
- the “Tempura Omakase,”
- and the “Miketsukuni Omakase.”
Omakase, translating to “I leave it up to you,” is a common Japanese dining style where after ordering the type of full-course meal you want, the exact details of what is served are left up to the chef to decide, based on factors such as what is in season.
