Aonoya is a Japanese restaurant located within the restaurant and theater complex “SEIKAIHA” on Awaji Island. The restaurant serves Japanese cuisine, with a focus on sushi and tempura made with locally caught seafood and agricultural products harvested from its own farm and local farms.
Located along the coast, all seats face the sea. With tiered box seating, mimicking that of a theater, you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the spectacular sea. At the front of the restaurant, chefs prepare your meal using fresh Awaji Island ingredients.
Enjoy nigiri sushi made with fresh seasonal ingredients such as sea bream and octopus caught at Yura Port, and tempura fried with shrimp and white fish caught in the Seto Inland Sea or vegetables grown on our own farm and other local farms.
All Seats Face the Seto Inland Sea
Aonoya is located along the road that leads to the west coast after getting off at Awaji IC and is on a driving route famous for its stunning sunsets. The interior of Aonoya is shaped like stairs with all seats facing the sea. The walls are made of glass, allowing uninterrupted views.
During the day, you can enjoy the beautiful ocean view of the Harimanada Sea. In the evening, enjoy what has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Sunsets" in Japan. After the sun goes down, beautiful images are projected onto the glass with projection mapping, creating a lively immersive space.
Along the front of the restaurant, the chefs prepare fresh nigiri sushi and tempura in real time in an open kitchen. During lunch and dinner hours, live musical performances by professional musicians are held. Enjoy ocean views, listen to music, and experience craftsmanship up close.
Nigiri Sushi and Freshly Fried Tempura
Aonoya's cuisine mainly consists of Japanese dishes such as seafood nigiri sushi and freshly fried tempura. The nigiri sushi features fresh ingredients such as sea bream, sea urchin, and octopus caught in Yura Port. White fish from the Akashi Strait is a seasonal favorite. Many guests travel to Aonoya to try the rare Yura sea urchin from Awaji.
Other popular chef-made nigiri dishes include Awaji's long-season mackerel, hairtail, and conger eel.
The tempura is freshly fried using ingredients from Awaji Island, such as shrimp, white fish, and freshly harvested vegetables from our own farm and other local farms. Combined with tea salt, salted seaweed, and tempura sauce, the flavors come together for an exquisite taste of Awaji Island.
Popular Lunch and Dinner Menu Items
For lunch, the “Aonoya Gozen” set is popular. This comes with a variety of elaborate seasonal side dishes served within a tiered Japanese cypress box. Other dishes offered for lunch include fresh nigiri sushi and freshly fried tempura.
For dinner, there are three popular full-course meals: the “Sushi Omakase,” the “Tempura Omakase,” and the “Miketsukuni Omakase.” Omakase, translating to “I leave it up to you,” is a common Japanese dining style where after ordering the type of full-course meal you want, the exact details of what is served are left up to the chef to decide, based on factors such as what is in season.
A projection mapping show will also be held during dinner time, with mesmerizing images projected onto the darkened windows using the latest technology.
